  • 03:51 Lyrics Coming Out of Clouds
    Coming out of clouds
    A million miles of circles
    I have traveled round
    And missed the middle way
    There ain’t no choice
But darlin’ just to love me
And I love you more each day

A brand new breath of air
Is harder now to come by
    But I remember where
    I turned the other way
    And change, it comes hard
But we're really on the down side
It took this long to know
For what and how to pray

    Close your eyes and see
    The haze is now receding
There is love living here today
    Don't you know by now?
    How everything affects you
You and me we got to go our way

    I'll prepare no more
There's no piece of the puzzle
    Needed to light the day
    There's a distant shore
But it’s really just for looking
    You're in my blood
    And here you'll always stay

    Close your eyes and see
    Our perfect world, baby
There is love living here today
    Don't you know by now
    How everything affects you
And you and me we got to go our way

    Coming out of clouds
    A million miles of circles
    I have traveled round
    And missed the middle way
    There ain’t no choice
But darlin’ just to love me
I love you more each day…
  • 05:34 Lyrics The Angel and Bassui
    Reading a man who says
    Don’t bother reading
Tells me I got all the answers I need

In the absence of cleverly positioned words
I cling to the fingertips of the spirit world
Intellectual understanding versus practice, you know
    At arms length

With watchful eye and that sort
The truth is, my only glimpse came from
    Being high on a rooftop
    And so I climb again

I don’t know what this crap is
What I am so beautifully trying to say
Is that I saw an angel
    Two or three nights past

An illumined cloud unlocked the moon
    Brought forth a specific light
When before there were only fingerprints
     In a darkened tiny room

Now I was disturbed, looking for the undisturbed
    And looking on with hatred
    Inward to the bone
The angel opened up the clouds
The moonlight reached the heart of the waves
And a dead phrase came alive
Until I killed it with a doubt
     I said “it’s
    not the realization,
but that it didn’t defile me”
And there she came to smile on the quote

    We see
    But only for a moment
    We bleed
    If only to define
    These prison walls
    Where you feel protected
    They are only delusion
In the not so far behind

For a moment there was stillness
    The light was touching everything
    She sailed the northern sky
    And disbanded to the south

An angel in the northern sky
Before I thought to wonder why
For a moment there was stillness
    No faith and no doubt

    We see
    But only for a moment
    We bleed
    If only to define
    These prison walls
    Where you feel protected
    They are only delusion
In the not so far behind

The hunter and the hunted have always marched in common time

  • 04:21 Lyrics Old Oaks
    OLD OAKS
    gonna re-read the funnies
    disregard the inertia
sadi drew a lesson on me
old oaks can be knocked down
you can hear the whining of the wind
you can listen to the demons
or hear what the angels have to say
lord, its easy to go down
when the lost can’t replace the found
just got to keep from dyin all day

    there was talk of balance
    singing highs but mostly lows
and will i decide to be free
like a river that’s been damned
well i used to be a promise land
    running from the light
well some need the darkness to see
there are  moments in the day
when i swear i have found a way
just to keep from dying all day

    there were habits all around
    slammin nails in the coffin
and will i learn from history
    look at all these lessons
i see them in every face i see
    yea everyone’s a lesson
i thank god you were a lesson to me
you know i had forgotten how
to forget the price that you pay
and just to keep from dyin all day
  • 04:05 Lyrics Hot Road Out of Arkansas
    HOT ROAD OUT OF ARKANSAS
It’s a hot road out of Arkansas
I left a woman waiting on
A love that would not wait for long
Got the devil’s hot breath on my shoulder
    I don’t mind the stink
I like the cold wind in my face…and I drink

There’s a penance for each ounce of circumstance
I try and pay as I go
But if I think to long I’ll be nothing but gone
    Funny how that instinct grows

Kicking dust on a Texas backways
Them Christmas lights can take you right back home
Where the sunlight finds nothing but your eyes
The light is what you came here for
Turning back that dial all the way and back again
I can’t hear the radio no more
I can’t hear the radio no more

There’s a penance for each ounce of circumstance….
I try and pay as I go
If I think too long I’ll be nothing but gone
And its funny how that instinct grows

There’s a glossy look of isolation fogging up my mirror
Luck’s an easy pill to swallow
But those dreams that press against your flesh
Won’t wake you quite the same
And I’ll take my chances up in Colorado

  • 04:57 Lyrics Pretty Late in the Day
    PRETTY LATE IN THE DAY
Well I’ll play it for you one time
    For myself three
    Tried to have it different
That’s the way it’s got to be
    I got a black moment
    Chasing after me

I burned out down in Texas
Now I’m north, but ever west
    Got my woman with me
    I know I’m surely blessed
    Maybe I’m done sleepin’
Maybe my livin’s caught up with me
One day I knew the blues
    And I was damned
But I was glad to be

You got the devil in your pocket
Everyone thinks he smells like cash
    The devil in your head
Gonna kill you twice as fast
    Deception…….
    Get away from me
Go on and leave me be

    Found no need for sadness
It was pretty late in the day
And you won’t catch me hating
    the mornings anymore, babe
    Forgetting what I say
One day I knew the blues
    One day they went away

One day I knew the blues
    One day they went away
  • 04:27 Lyrics Photo On the Wall
    PHOTO ON THE WALL
    How long
    Have I been a fool?
It might take years to figure out
    Finding cracks in others
I got a heart full of honor
And an eye filled with doubt
    I got a light
I let it shine some days
But it's a light rain in a long drought

Now I am thinking of my brothers
I love them more than they know
    Mahalia, sing me to tomorrow
    Today just ain’t a go
Now I am thinking of tomorrow
If I could let the truth be known
Now I ain’t tryin’ to be clever--
    My sisters and my brothers
    Paint the world I know

    How long
    Have I been a fool
It might take years to figure out
    Finding cracks in others
I got a heart full of honor
And an eye filled with doubt
    I got a light
I let it shine some days
But its a light rain in a long drought
Won't you let the rain, quell the drought
    Let the rain,
    Kill the drought
  • 05:09 Lyrics La Pista
    LA PISTA
    Shut up
    Be a man
     Live with your own consequences
You got the tools and the time to make whatever you want to
Don't tell about how if silver were gold
Remind me how we're growing old
How your world just ain't the world we're living in

    I wasn't born to wear a crown
    I'm just hanging around
Just waiting on a long forgotten day

    You either get up
    Or go down
Swim in fear and you will drown
Drown down the river of pity
    Last call, one more round
Then search for some dark sanctuary
If you're someone else, you don't have to stay that way

I wasn't born to hang around
Or to stay in this town
I'm just waiting on the truth to set me free

A cup of courage, an ounce of doubt
Act like nothin ever bothers you
You got yourself, hey what else do you need
    You can criticize and complain
I tell you its all just noise to me
    Don't want to hear it
You know you choose just what you need

    Don't look so pure
    You don't fool me
I've known you since you were born
    Had potential all around
But you were happy just playin the clown'
    Above it all
    Beyond the blame
You can't lose if you don't get in the game...

I aint a villain lost in hate
I just could never take the bait
You know it all seemed so counterfeit to me

No I aint a hateful man
If you try you might understand
I just thought I was better than I seem

    It aint on purpose
    There aint no scheme
    No brilliant dark conspiracy
No revelation is waiting in the wings
You have today and nothing more
Don't tell me about how life's a chore
Some broken promise you can no longer believe

    I wasn't born to wear a crown
    I'm just hangin around
Waiting on a long forgotten way
  • 06:10 Lyrics The Reverend Bewley
    REVEREND BEWLEY
    Anthony Bewley brought the word
    Of John Wesley on down
    To this land of slavery
    Land of latent glory

    The split of ‘44
Was a hint of things to come
    Our comin’ country war
    The conscious of a nation

    The north and southern Methodists
    Had divided over slavery
    By 1860
    The bitterness was crazy

Bewley brought his kin to Texas
    Just 2 years before
And the preacher’s faith was strong
And he said the south was wrong

Send the word on out through the south
    That wherever you are
The eyes of god will find you
And send the word on out through the south
“I believe in the good in man
    To overcome the evil”

    Texas troubles
    The paper read
    The Dallas Herald uncovered it
A plot to burn our towns and then
A slave revolt led by a preacher man

“We got evidence here of insurrection
So brothers use your best detection
    Sniff out those northern Methodist
    Slave lovin’ abolitionist”

    And
Send the word on down through the south
That our ways are all our own
And it’s them that cast the first stone
Send the word on out through the south
They mean to take our land
They mean to free the African

The evidence was a forged letter
    That implicated Bewley
He took his wife and blind daughter
    Headed for Missouri

    Just shy of Casville, Missouri
They were circled by a Texas posse
They drug him back to Fort Worth
And hung him there above the earth

Left him hangin’ till the following day
When they threw him in a shallow grave
His bare knees stickin above the ground
He was too tall for the end he found

So send the word out through the south
    From an old oak tree
    They hung the Reverend Bewley
Send the word on out through the south
    From an old oak tree
    They hung the Reverend Bewley

The panic that swept the Texas hills
Was the kind the hates and fears and kills
The newspapers they all backed the cause
In southern laws and southern drawls
And Bewley wasn't the only one
They say a hundred or so were also hung
Black and white were lynched from Texas trees
    For rumor, fright, and forgeries

Send the word on down through the south
    Wherever you are
The eyes of God will find you
And send the word on down through the south
Don’t believe in the good of man
    To overcome the evil….
  • 03:45 Lyrics Heaven Through the Haze
    THROUGH THE HAZE
Too close to the floor now
    To duck any further
    My old fears hang around
    Like old ugly drapes
And every time I open them
    Hopin' to see through
I'm peering at my same old gaze

Now you can throw your smile around
Have the countenance of the happy
    You throw your teardrops down
    Just so you can see

    Heaven burnin' through the haze
    Through the bullet wounds
    And the smoggy taste
    Through the anger
    And the tragic waste
    There's something always blooming

    I can stand taller
    Nearly all of the time
But I tend to slouch in the corner
My light burns but for an instant
Just a flicker in the storm

    But you gotta define belief
    So carefully
    If it matters at all
    What you'll say
You gotta look so close that it’s a chore
Just to know all you miss along the way

And heaven's burnin through the haze
Through the bullet wounds and the smoggy haze
Through the anger and the tragic waste
    Something's always bloomin
  • 04:04 Lyrics Chemical Clergy
    CHEMICAL CLERGY
Layin around like he’s lost in a cave
Can’t find the calendar where he marked the date
    Can’t remember what
    The date was

It used to be less contrived than this
    Almost everyone agrees
Some try to change their fate
    And some of us believe
    In chemical clergy

And the light on this river
    At 5 am
Is so pretty it makes me feel guilty
Without the aids on which we all depend
In the times of the chemical clergy

Passed the lion down at the zoo
He seems to live a lot like we do
And this routine’s gonna kill me

Does he dream about where he came from?
Some African hill where his ancestors run
But a pretty good meal so easily comes
    2 or 3 times daily

And the light on the river at 5am
Is just so pretty it’s scary

No golden harp, but a silver guitar
Me and my girl could just hop in the car
On a long lucky mile, forget who we are
And dream of what we will be
And this routine’s gonna kill me

I been gone so long now
    I can’t imagine anybody there

Its what I do If there’s a message waiting
A clockwise occupation on a chair
The beauty of the gorge line
    I could tell you of
Do you see injustice in the fair?

And the light on this river at 5am
Is just enough to go through me
